TOM WARD insists FA Cup opponents Altrincham will not be relishing their trip to the Jakemans Stadium on Saturday.

The Blue Square Bet North rivals lock horns in the final qualifying round on Saturday, with £12,500 and a place in the first round proper at stake.

Centre-back Tom Ward, who superbly repelled high-flying Halifax last weekend, is relishing the cup showdown.

He says reaching the first round would be the highlight of his career so far.

"It's one of my career aims to reach the first round," said the former Sleaford Town defender.

"It would be fantastic to get there and Altrincham will not want to play us at the moment.

"We're capable of getting there. We've got a fantastic team here."

Ward, along with the rest of the defence and keeper Dan Haystead, were outstanding at Halifax.

United had to weather some intense pressure at The Shay, particularly after Gareth Seddon pulled a goal back late on.

"We are a lot more solid now. Earlier in the season we were too easy to beat," added Ward.

"We're now hard to beat and with the quality we've got up front we're going to win games."
